Who controls your business domain?

Your website address can feel like a permanent part of the business. Its registration still has an account, a renewal date, and someone responsible for keeping it current. Find out who that is before an expired card or a departing contractor makes the question urgent.

Identify the registrar and confirm that an authorized person in the business can sign in. Check the registrant information, renewal settings, payment method, and recovery contact. Turn on multifactor authentication where available. Do not mistake access to the website editor for access to the domain registration.

Keep a short ownership record with the registrar’s name, the renewal date, and the people authorized to manage it. Store credentials separately in your business password manager. Agree on a handover process with anyone who manages the registration for you.

Put a renewal review on the calendar even if automatic renewal is enabled. A working website today does not tell you whether the account behind it will still be reachable next month.
