Check the support date before the price
A discounted camera or smart hub can still work long after its manufacturer stops providing security updates. Before buying, look for the support policy for the exact model. The product family name is not enough.
Find out how updates arrive and whether the manufacturer states a support end date. Check whether the device needs a subscription, a cloud account, or another hub for the features you want. Those dependencies are part of the purchase, even when they are not printed beside the price.
For devices already in the house, make a short list of model numbers and support information. Turn on automatic updates where available. If support has ended, plan a replacement or retirement based on what the device can access and how you use it. A separate network can limit some exposure, but it does not restore missing security fixes.
You do not need to replace every working device this weekend. You do need to know which ones still receive care from their maker and which ones you are now keeping alive on your own.
